The Slum and JJ Department of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is providing developed plots to eligible&aposjhuggi-jhonpri'(JJ) residents under the relocation policy.

During the last three years, 7,351 jhuggi dweller families have been rehabilitated in resettlement sites in Savda Ghevra, Bawana and Narela in north-west and outer Delhi, officials said.

Of these, 6,382 families were shifted to Savda Ghevra and Narela in 2006-07, from areas like eastern Yamuna Pushta, Shahdara, Jhilmil, Timarpur and Tagore Garden, they said.

In 2007-08, 555 families were relocated from slum clusters in Nizamuddin, Naraina, Karkardooma and Zakhira to Savda Ghevra and Bawana while in 2008-09, 414 families were rehabilitated from slum clusters in National Highway-24 and Humayun Road, among other areas.

The MCD has spent Rs 26.18 crore in relocation and has also paid Rs 14.15 crore to DDA as cost of land in 2007-08.
