Delhi will soon have a centralised centre for languages dedicated to the world of literature on the pattern of Bharat Bhavan, which is based in Bhopal. Four-acres of land at Jhatikra in the southwest district of the city is being acquired for the purpose.

The Delhi government is to adopt the concept of Bhopal's Bharat Bhavan for its yet to be named centre of literature. The focus of the centre will be Hindi along with the state languages notified by the state government.

Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit is reported to be taking keen interest in the development of the "centre for excellence in literature". The concerned department is working on the project after the chief minister expressed her interest. The state government will soon be sending a team to Bhopal to study the concept of Bharat Bhavan. "The team of officials will make a detailed study of Bharat Bhavan. Delhi's centre for literature will not only match the scale of Bharat Bhavan, but will even go beyond," said a senior official.

He said that finance would not be a constraint, adding that the brief to the officials is to develop a centre for literature which substantially contributes to the growth of the languages.
