Delhi University sets up an Intellectual Property Rights CellBy Riti, Section Education

Delhi University has set up an Intellectual Property Rights Cell and a Patent Fund under the chairmanship of the Dean of Research, Madan Mohan. The idea is to facilitate researchers, inventors and creators of work to manage their intellectual property rights through this legal machinery and also to manage its commercial aspects, said an official release on Monday. "The cell comprises members drawn from different disciplines and faculties of the University. The IPR Cell and Patent Fund may also take practising lawyers and law firms dealing with IPR issues on board. "Commercial returns to the University from this will be ploughed back to the Patent Fund," it added The Patent Fund has been created initially with an amount of Rs.20 lakh for helping the creators of intellectual property in filing applications and also for giving financial assistance to the academia for paying for publication charges, if required, for publication of research papers. Funds for Bihar
Meanwhile, in view of the natural disaster that has struck Bihar affecting millions of people, the University has decided to contribute Rs.20 lakh to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund. The University has also despatched a team of students of the Department of Social Work along with 97 packets of relief items. The team will coordinate with other agencies at the district and State levels. For this purpose, the Department has also established a helpline (Phone No. 98688-94883 and 3202-1499).
