A group of IIT-Delhi students and alumni have launched Foodiebay.com, an online restaurant directory that seeks to help users find food options in and around Delhi. The site currently offers menus, reviews, ratings and contact details of over 1200 eating joints in Delhi and NCR (Gurgaon and Noida).

A couple of months back, a group of 4 IIT-Delhi students and alumni, were busy giving finishing touches to the site, which they believed could be any food lover's delight. www.foodiebay.com was launched on 26th January 2008 and within a few months of its launch, it has managed to capture a steady stream of visitors. The site has a comprehensive listing of over 1200 eating joints, from every nook and cranny to the most recognized addresses in Delhi and NCR. Visitors can choose their favourite cuisine and the locality they would like to order from, calculate the cost, read up user ratings and get the dish of his choice delivered at home.

The usage pattern of the site displays a maximum number of visitors from Corporates (68%), followed by visitors who have ordered from home (32%) and on an average about 80% visitors access the displayed Menus of various restaurants. With the team adding almost 20 restaurants everyday, the site has managed to strike a great relationship with its content providers. Restaurant owners, who have listed their menu on the site, find it a very cost effective method to reach to their end-users, without having spent a huge sum on publicity material.

The economies of business for the site are quite simple. While the site is constantly updated with new information, strategic and financial support is provided by the alums. Drawing inspiration from seamlessweb.com, which is an online food ordering service in US and UK, Foodiebay.com soon plans to launch in multiple metros over the next few months. And judging from the response that they are getting from Delhi and NCR (91% of the visitors are from these 2 areas), Foodiebay.com, will definitely prove to be a respite for many a hungry soul. Bon appetite!
