From August 11, the Delhi Jal Board's (DJB) relocated Revenue Office in Mukherjee Nagar will be operational, inform official sources. The Jal Board has already made the necessary arrangements. With the opening of this branch the administrative as well as the bill collection facility for the entire Civil Lines Zone (CLZ) will be shifted from Rajpur Road to the Mukherjee Nagar Office. The decision, however, has created a divide among the residents. Some support the relocation while others cite inconvenience to oppose it.

The relocation of DJB's bill collection centre has been a long pending demand of the residents of CLZ. According to them, they faced much hardship in reaching the DJB office at Rajpur Road. "The present bill collection centre is located at the CLZ office of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). In the absence of direct bus routes and unavailability of other modes of public transport access to the office is quite an arduous task," complained Praveen Kumar Dhameja, organising secretary of Parmanand Residents Welfare Association.

Residents claim that many of their complaints went unheeded, as they could not follow up the matter with the DJB officials as the office was quite far away Therefore they had been demanding the shifting of DJB's CLZ office from Rajpur Road to Mukherjee Nagar Speaking on the matter S. B. Shashank, Director Revenue, DJB, said that the relocation of the office has been sanctioned. But due to the delay in the electrification work in the building and installation of computers the opening got delayed.

But not everybody is happy, residents of Tulsinagar, Shastri Nagar, Ghantaghar, Kamla Nagar, Malkaganj, Delhi University, Vijay Nagar, Sindhora Kalan, Sri Nagar claim that for them depositing their water bill at DJB's Rajpur Road office had become a matter of convenience and habit for them. "Since 1965 we had been depositing our water bills at the Rajpur Road office but all that will change. We will now have to go Mukherjee Nagar for issues such as corrections in the bill or non-delivery of bills. After the relocation of the office it will become difficult for us. For the sake of our convenience we want the DJB to operate a camp office at the Water Emergency Office in Gulabi Bagh as well," says Rajiv Verma, a resident of Jawahar Nagar Residents also complain that it takes a long time for the DJB to address their complaints. Now with the relocation of the DJB revenue office, they hope solutions to their problems will be expedited.

Caught between the crossfire DJB officials try to downplay the matter "It is not possible to make everyone happy, on our part we try to provide maximum convenience to the consumers. But opening an office in each colony is not possible," said a DJB official.
