To Make sure their tall promises do not fall flat this time round, the Municipal Corpora- tion of Delhi (MCD) has consti- tuted a monitoring committee to ensure the time-bound repair of roads.

Now that the civic body has to repair the roads in 10 days, the committee will monitor the day-to-day progress.

The total damaged area of these roads is 2.02,412 square metres. In south zone, 36,3469 square metres of roads are in a damaged condition.

The MCD decided to carry out repair work in three categories.

There are some roads that need to be repaired by the MCD staff. There are many others roads that are covered under the warranty period of contract and will be repaired by the contractors concerned.

There are, however, many roads that have crossed the warranty period and needed repair for quite some time. The civic agency decided to initiate a fresh process for their repair work.

"Some roads are being repaired by contractors at their own expense since these are within the contract period of five years," said Gupta.

Roads such as Kalka Devi Marg, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg, Shankar Road, Krishnan Road, Bande Matram Marg, Jharonda Border Road, Palam Chowk Road will be repaired by the contractors at their own expense.

The civic body said all defaulting contractors would be penalised.

Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor Divya Jaiswal said engineerin-chief Ravi Das had been excluded from the study tour to Germany and Italy to take care of the road repair work being carried out by MCD as well as to coordinate the flood control measures being taken by the civic body .
