DU Offers New Courses: Bachelor of Science In Physical Education, Health Education And Sports

Delhi University's Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences has announced its admission schedule for the new academic year.

The Institute offers three courses: Bachelor of Science in Physical Education, Health Education and Sports; Bachelor of Physical Education; and Master of Physical Education. While there are 70 seats for the B.Sc. programme, there are 50 and 25 seats for the B.P.Ed. and M.P.Ed. courses respectively.

"The B.Sc. course can be done after Class XII, while only those candidates who have completed their graduation can apply for the other two. The B.P.Ed. is a one-year teacher training course for school teachers and the M.P.Ed. a two-year degree course for college teachers," said Principal D. K. Kansal.

The last date for applying for the B.Sc. course is June 9, and for the other two programmes June 21.

The entrance examination for the B.Sc. programme has been fixed for June 10 and for B.P.Ed. and M.P.Ed. June 23. Thereafter candidates will have to clear a physical fitness test, playing ability test and interviews to make it to the first list of selected candidates that will be displayed in the first week of July.

The combined test for candidates seeking admission to B.Tech./ B.Arch. of Aligarh Muslim University will be held this Saturday.

For the first time in the history of AMU, the admission tests for MBBS/BDS, B.Tech./B.Arch., diploma in Engineering and Class XI will be held at five different places in the country: Aligarh, Bhopal, Kolkata, Kozhikode and Pune.

"The objective behind this radical step was to give a pan-India character to the University's admission system. These centres will attract meritorious students to AMU, ensure wider representation of the States across India and strengthen the all-India character of the University," said an AMU official.

"Vice-Chancellor P. K. Abdul Azis has written a letter to the Chief Secretaries of the respective States to provide security arrangements for conducting the tests in a transparent manner at various centres," the official added.

Pearl School of Business, Gurgaon, in academic collaboration with Delhi University's Shri Ram College of Commerce and strategic partnership with Nottingham Trent University, UK, has announced admission to its three-year BBA programme.

Applications for the programme can be submitted up to June 6, while the course starts on July 14.

The programme is designed by the faculty of the School in collaboration with NTU's Nottingham Business School and Babson College, US.

FIITJEE, an institute for IIT-JEE training, has announced that it will conduct the FIITJEE Talent Reward Exam (FTRE)-2008 on June 4 at 48 test centres across the country for students who have cleared Class XII.

The last date to register for this exam is June 1, while the results will be declared on June 12.

The students appearing for FTRE will also be entitled to attend a workshop on IIT-JEE conducted under the academic guidance of the institute in select cities.

Ghalib Institute is organising an international seminar on "Josh Maleehabadi, Fikr-o-Fun" at Aiwan-e-Ghalib in Delhi this Friday.

The three-day seminar will be presided over by Syed Shahid Mehdi, former Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia and inaugurated by renowned Urdu scholar Syed M. Aqeel Rizvi.
