They want the responsibility for the same to be fixed on area representatives
The Cooperative group housing societies from various parts of Delhi want area representatives to be accountable to them. Their demand is that responsibility should be fixed on these area representatives so that maintenance of civic facilities inside the society premises is carried out regularly But the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) seems in no hurry to implement this. The members say that at the time of establishment of the societies, Delhi Development Authority had allotted the land, after which the society members developed flats and ever since they have been maintaining all the internal civic facilities. They claim that being honest property tax payers they should be provided all the necessary benefits.

Recently, we have raised this issue and given a letter to the MCD standing committee chairman also. We have also told him that some of the councillors have agreed to spend their funds for the devel- opment inside the society" The members say if councillors can spend their funds in unauthorised colonies, then why can they not develop the internal roads, streetlights and parks in such societies.
Vinod Kumar Aggarwal, president of East End CGHS, says, "Recently MCD has provided 20 per cent property tax rebate which is not enough to maintain our societies. MCD should provide more relief to us because a large number of people are living in these societies and paying a hefty property tax. But in comparison to the taxes we are not getting enough facilities from them." When contacted, Vijendra Gupta, chairman of the MCD Standing Committee, said, "These are private lands hence we cannot spend from the development fund inside the societies and are exploring other possibilities to provide relief to the residents."
