Our officers out in the field will give feedback about things that need at- tention. It can be missing road signs, malfunctioning sig- nals or even some emergency. S.N. SRIVASTAVA, Joint Commisioner of Police (Traffic)
On your way back home every evening, have you noticed a particular lane with poor light ing and always wondered why nobody notices it? Or for that matter a pothole which can upturn even a three-wheeler? After all a poorly lit road or a pothole as good as a crater can be a major cause for accidents. In all probabilities, such things would entail attention of the authorities only after a couple of fatal accidents take place. But now, with the help of a `Traffic Management Coordinating Desk' at the traffic management centre, Delhi Traffic Police hopes to plug these loopholes. The first meeting of the `Traffic Management Coordinating Desk' on April 10 will see coming together of the traffic police with various civic agencies like the MCD, NDMC, PWD, NHAI, Delhi Cantonment Board, BSES and NDPL. The purpose, as the name suggests, is to maintain coordination between various departments in order to smoothen traffic movement. Click on "Full Story" for more...
"Our officers out in the field will give feed back about things that need attention. It can be missing road markings, malfunctioning signals or even an emergency like an uproot ed tree due to storm blocking the carriageway," said Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) S.N. Shrivastava.
A nodal officer from each department will be attending the meeting. The requirements as noticed will be passed on to the respective agencies for following up and taking action. After the first meeting on April 10, the team will meet every fortnight to review the situation and discuss new requirements. The process, traffic officials say, will expedite matters as earlier writing letters only meant delays. Apart from the routine complaints, the team will also look into programmes about routine repairs of roads, installations of signages and construction of speed breakers among other things.
