Buoyed BY the concept of flourishing e-tutoring business in the West, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is now planning to introduce the same in its primary schools. Owing to lack of availability of specialised teachers for certain subjects, the civic body has decided to impart certain lectures to all primary schools students at one go.

For the purpose, a common timetable would be created for all the 1,751 schools and a teacher would impart lecture from a central room at the headquarters, which would be viewed simultaneously by all the students of a particular class through interconnectivity .

THE PLAN

  • A common timet able would be drawn up for all the 1,751 MCD-run schools.

  • A teacher would impart lessons from a central room at the MCD headquarters.

  • This room would be linked to the internet connected to all the schools.

This central room at the education headquarters would be laced with a computer system that will be connected to all the schools through the Internet.

"We have a shortage of school teachers and hence have decided to use this format so that one teacher would be able to lecture thousands of students at one instance. The concept is used wide ly in Western countries. For the purpose we are in the process of developing software too. In the summer holidays we would be able to float the tenders", said Prithvi Raj Sahni, Chairman of the Education Committee of the MCD.

The system, named Management Information System (MIS), would be implemented by the next academic session. A budget of Rs 10 crore has been earmarked for it.

"Earlier, Doordarshan used to telecast lessons on particular subjects and we used to show it through television to the students. The concept is quite similar to that of audio-visual lessons," added Sahni.
