Haryana To Ease Capital's Water Woes, asked to release 600 cusecs of Yamuna water to DelhiBy Leo11, Section Water
To mitigate the water crisis in the capital, Haryana has been asked to release 600 cusecs of Yamuna water to Delhi in normal circumstances and maintain it, subject to water availability.
This was decided at a meeting of top officials of the two states held under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister's Principal Secretary, TKA Nair, in the city last month. The Delhi government insisted there be no "fluctuations" and that Haryana release 600 cusecs of water to meet the needs of the Capital's burgeoning population. Haryana officials, however, said there was a water shortage in the Yamuna and the state was not in a position to supply the same amount all the time. Source: HT, 05/03/08
