MCD To Be On Sealing Job From Today Again, All Those Roads That Are Not covered Under M. Plan 2021

Delhiites Would face the ice of sealing once again from Monday. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has said that 40 teams have been constituted for the purpose, which will take up all the zones.

All those roads that are not covered under the Master Plan 2021 and the Delhi Laws Special Provisions Act, 2008, would face sealing from Monday.

The Special Provisions Act gives relief to structures in unauthorised colonies, village abadi areas and extensions, existing farm houses, slums and JJ clusters, schools, dispensaries, religious and cultural institutions, storage houses, warehouses and godowns used for storing agricultural products in rural areas built on agricultural land can avail of the scheme.

"The MCD would start the sealing drive with properties that are lying vacant on roads that are not notified. We are also not planning to seal any of the establishments or shops operating from DDA flats as we are still in talks with the Lieutenant Governor and Union Urban De- velopment Minister Jaipal Reddy regarding this," said Mayor Arti Mehra.

Mehra further said all those establishments, institutions and areas where the encroachment or unauthorised construction are at their lowest, efforts should be made to provide them some relief. Earlier, the MCD had given the shopkeepers and traders 45 days time to voluntarily shut their establishments.

The MCD had earlier notified 2,183 and 355 roads respectively, which will not face sealing. The civic body has further stated that all the unnotified roads in the Capital would be liable for sealing as per the Supreme Court's recent direction.

Mayor Arti Mehra would meet the Union Urban Development Minister and ask him to bring in the amnesty scheme, wherein all such people should be given a one-time relief.

Mehra, Leader of the House Subhash Arya and Standing Committee Chairman Vijendra Gupta had met Lieutenant-Governor Tejendra Khanna recently to press for not sealing shops that were operating out of DDA flats as that would affect lakhs of traders. The monitoring committee on the other hand had given directions to seal all such shops operating out of DDA flats. According to the committee, only one shop is allowed to operate from a building.
