Finally the day is here when travelling in the Capital becomes a much more comfortable experience. Loud music, honking of pressure horns and beating on the sides of buses are to be banned from Monday, following orders of the Delhi High Court.

Blueline bus drivers will be required to wear uniforms and badges with their names on them. The order holds true for Delhi Transport Corporations buses too. No extra non-passenger would be allowed in the bus, barring the driver and a conductor.

"We will prosecute drivers for not driving in lanes and for overspeeding," said a senior po- lice officer The fine for overspeeding and drunken driving now stand at Rs 2,500 and Rs 900 respectively.

Encroachments by water vendors and other hawkers will also not be allowed. Roads near the bus stands will have to be kept free of these.

"We will take the help of the local police and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi authorities to remove any encroachments," said DCP, Traffic (North) H.P.S. Virk.

Moreover not more than three buses would be allowed at a bus stand at any given point of time. The traffic policemen would punch driving licences of the drivers found flouting the new rules.

If an autorickshaw driver refuses you or demands extra money, you can complain against him and he will also be prosecuted by the traffic police under the same rules.

"If his licence is punched five times, it would be cancelled," said another senior police officer.
