Over 10,000 soccer balls are all set to roll into the city in April from Hong Kong only for MCD schools. The idea is the brain child of the Delhi's Mayor Farhad Suri who wants to encourage sports in the 1,800 primary schools run by the Corporation. "I had approached Hope Foundation, a NGO, for aid and they agreed to donate 10,000 soccer balls for our schools," said Suri, who feels that with over nine Lakh children enrolled in Capital municipal primary schools, sports should be given priority.
"We had approached the Mayor for a child care project we wanted to start in Sonia Vihar and he mentioned his desire to encourage sports in MCD-run schools, which is when we decided to help him out," said Gimms Andrews chief finance officer of Hope Foundation. "We then zeroed in on our volunteer Jeff Ariaf who runs a football manufacturing unit in Hong Kong and willingly agreed to donate 10,000 balls for children in India," he added.
