India and Australia today agreed to jointly promote the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in 2006 and in Delhi in 2010 to significantly increase tourist flow.

This was agreed at the first joint working group meeting on tourism between the two countries here.

The Indian side was led by Tourism Minister Renuka Chowdhury and the Australian one by its - Fran Bailey.

Agreeing to adopt an action plan to have effective bilateral cooperation in various areas of tourism and travel, both ministers also agreed to establish a bilateral eco-tourism working group to identify joint research and training projects, an official release said.

The Australian side agreed to host an Australia-India tourism business forum to coincide with the Melbourne Commonwealth Games, the release said.

The Indian side expressed concern over travel advisories being issued by the Australian government from time to time for its tourists travelling to some parts of India resulting in loss of arrivals in India.

Joint marketing for tourism promotion, improved air connectivity, regular interaction between Australian Federation for Travel Agents and the Travel Agent Association of India and facilitating travel procedures were discussed during the joint working group meeting, the release added.
