Consultants appointed; report to be submitted in three months

CHENNAI: Preliminary steps have been taken for preparing a blueprint for metro rail in Chennai. .

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), which has been entrusted with the task of preparing the feasibility report, has appointed consultants, including Rail India Technical and Economic Services (RITES), for undertaking surveys on congested routes, the demands of commuters, and the existing infrastructure.

The DMRC will study how to integrate the existing suburban system, including the mass rapid transit system, with the new facility. According to a DMRC official, after the submission of surveys by the consultants, the DMRC will prepare a comprehensive report, which would suggest routes. It will be submitted in three months.

The project cost will be worked out after getting the survey reports from the consultants.
